Glyn Elwyn, BA MD MSc PhD, is professor, physician and Senior Scientist at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice in the USA. After graduating in the humanities and subsequently in medicine, he then went on to do his PhD with Richard Grol, who was at that time professor and head of IQ healthcare.

Glyn Elwyn leads an interdisciplinary team, The Preference Laboratory [link: http://preferencelaboratory.org/], examining the implementation of shared decision making into routine settings. His current focus is on the development and impact of Option Grids TM decision aids as evidence-based tools to foster better clinical conversations. He has developed the Observer OPTION and CollaboRATE instruments to measure shared decision making. He is the lead editor of Shared Decision Making: Evidence-Based Patient Choice (Oxford University Press, 3rd edition, 2016).
