Patrick Jeurissen is endowed professor of Sustainable Healthcare Systems at IQ healthcare. He also works as a scientific advisor for the Dutch Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. His main interest is the question of affordability and reform of healthcare, both on a national and an international level (EU, OECD, WHO).

Since 2013 he has been programme leader of Celsus, academy for sustainable healthcare (www.celsusacademie.nl), a knowledge programme initiated by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, which is carried out by the department of IQ healthcare of the Radboudumc.

In his inaugural lecture ‘An increasing amount of care, an affordable solution’ on 1 June 2016, Patrick states that the complexity and the multiplicity of the causes of the increasing costs in healthcare demand a firm and truly integrated approach. Only then will we be able to create long-term sustainable solutions.

Jeurissen received his Master of Public Administration at the Erasmus Universiteit and the Indiana University (USA) and his PhD in 2010 (27 May) for his thesis 'For-profit hospitals. A comparative and longitudinal study of the for-profit hospital sector in four Western Countries'. In this thesis (2010) he made an analysis of the development and the logic of for-profit hospitals.
