Rwanda delegation visit to Radboudumc to work on health benefit package design

From 25-29 October last, dr. Rob Baltussen and dr. Leon Bijlmakers from the Global Health Priorities research group at HEV hosted a capacity strengthening workshop at the Radboudumc in Nijmegen on Community Based Health Insurance (CBHI) benefit package design in Rwanda, with a specific focus on oncology services.

A delegation from Rwanda, with professionals from the Ministry of Health, the Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB), the National University of Rwanda (NUR), and the Palliative Care Association of Rwanda, under the guidance of moderators from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the Centre for Global Development/international Decision Support Initiative (CGD/iDSI), the NUR School of Public Health, Radboud UMC and WHO, worked on standard operating guidelines for a health benefit package (HBP) review, protocols for service costing and cost-effectiveness assessment, appraisal, capacity strengthening requirements, governance and institutionalisation of HBP reviews. The workshop was part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen the health benefit package revision process for Rwanda’s CBHI.
